Williamson Issues a Statement to Spectators Concerning Sportsmanship
Williamson College of the Trades, in conjunction with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Seaboard Conference, seeks to promote good sportsmanship by student-athletes, coaches and spectators.
We request your cooperation by supporting the participants and officials in a positive manner.
Profanity, racial or sexist comments and/or other intimidating actions directed at officials, student-athletes, coaches, team representatives or college representatives will not be tolerated and are grounds for immediate removal from the premises. In addition, please do not talk or attempt to talk or distract the players, coaches and team personnel during athletic contests.
Please join us in setting a positive example to those attending games on campus. Thank you very much.
In addition to the above statement, long-time Williamson director of athletics Dale Plummer has this to say:
"None of the student-athletes you see out on the field of play are being paid to play. Many have to make tremendous sacrifices just to be able to play. Williamson students are up at 6:00 A.M. and then go to class and shop for eight hours each day before heading to practice. All of our coaches have full-time jobs elsewhere and they too have to make sacrifices to be able to coach.
"No one is out on the field during the game deliberately trying to make mistakes, whether it be a player or a coach. They all feel bad enough when they do make a mistake. We ask that you remember that and support the players and coaches in their efforts. No one wants to be more successful than the players and coaches, and they are giving it their all to try to do so. Please keep that in mind and again, support the players and coaches in a positive manner before, during and after today's contest.
"We thank you in advance for your help and support in the manner."
