Lacrosse Comeback Sends Mechanics Into Liberty Finals
MEDIA, Pa. - Trailing by two goals with less than nine minutes to play, the Williamson College of the Trades lacrosse team rallied for a 10-9 against SJU in the NCLL Liberty conference semifinals on Friday night.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Rob Wagner and Hayden McGinnis had three goals each. Wagner also had three assists and McGinnis added one.
- Anthony Zollo found the back of the cage twice and added two assists.
- Martin Marker scored twice and had two helpers. Seamus Bohannon tallied once.
- Colin Wintrode made 15 saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Mechanics were down 2-0 midway through the first before goals from Bohannon and McGinnis knotted the score after the first 15 minutes.
- With the game tied 4-4, SJU scored twice in the final 2:30 of the second quarter, taking a 6-4 lead into halftime.
- Each team found the back of the cage twice in the third.
- Wiliamson cut the lead to 8-7 on a goal by Zollo less than a minute into the fourth.
- SJU went back up by two at the 11:46 mark.
- McGinnis scored his second of the game with 8:31 to play, cutting the lead to 9-8. He then found rope again with 4:20 to play, tying the contest.
- Wagner scored the game-winner 65 seconds later off a feed from Zollo.
UP NEXT
The Mechanics play next in the Liberty Conference championship on Sunday against either Rowan or TCNJ. Time and location will be determined after the second semifinal.
