Dickinson's Fourth Quarter Blitz Leads to Williamson Win

Dickinson's Fourth Quarter Blitz Leads to Williamson Win

With Williamson and Sussex County College knotted at 6-6 heading into the fourth quarter, and the Skylanders gaining momentum, the Mechanics needed someone to step up in the fourth quarter if they were going to pull out a victory. Matt Dickinson (FR/Springfield, PA) did just that, scoring four straight goals in less than eight minutes to lead Williamson to a hard-fought 10-7 home victory Sunday afternoon.

The teams played a close game last year in Newton, New Jersey, with Sussex escaping with a 9-8 win, so Williamson knew they were in for a battle on Sunday. Sure enough, the teams were tied at 2-2 at the end of the first quarter. Both Williamson goals were scored by Matt Gallagher (SR/Avon Grove, PA).

Williamson was able to used goals by Gallagher, Dickinson and Cooper Conroy (FR/Broomall, PA) and a staunch defensive effort to take a 5-3 halftime lead. Sussex however was far from done, as they outscored Williamson 3-1 in the third stanza to tie things up at 6-6 heading into the fourth quarter. It was then that Dickinson stepped things up.

He scored his first of the four goals off an assist from Gallagher, at the 12:09 mark. He then scored tow nifty unassisted goal, one at the 8:06 mark and the other at the 5:55 mark to put Williamson up 9-6. He then used a feed again from Gallagher to net yet another goal with 4:09 left to seal things for the Mechanics.

Jack Welsh (FR/Broomall, PA) continued his stellar play in goal, as he stopped 13 shots on the day.

"It was not our best game but good teams find a way to win when they are not playing their best, and our guys did just that. We have a lot to work on but that is a game we would not have won last year. Our guys gutted it out today and did what it took to get the win," shared Williamson head coach Jim DeRose.

The win is Williamson's second in a row and moves them to 6-4 on the year. They next host Anne Arundel Community College on Friday night at 7:00 P.M.
