Second Half Surge Keeps Williamson Undefeated

Playing without their leading scorer, it took Williamson a little bit to get going in Friday night's Liberty division battle against #22 ranked Rowan University.  In fact, the Mechanics found themselves down by a goal in the third quarter before a four-goal outburst put them up for good, giving them a 6-4 win over the Profs.

Williamson led 2-0 after the first quarter. Their first goal came from Konnor Oreskovich at the 5:45 mark off an assist from Seamus Bohannan.  The two then reversed roles at the :48 second mark, with Bohannan scoring of an assist from Oreskovich to put Williamson up 2-0 at the end of the quarter.

Rowan came into the game ranked #22 in the nation-and they showed exactly why, as they came back with two second quarter goals of their own, while their defense shut down Williamson's offense, and things were tied at 2-2 at halftime.

Williamson then experienced something in the third quarter that they had not experienced since their opening game. They actually trailed in the second half of a game for the first time since their win over West Chester, when Rowan scored at the 12:35 mark to go up, 3-2.

Anyone expecting Williamson to panic at that point was sorely mistaken, as the Mechanics re-grouped and started to take the game over from there.  Cooper Conroy scored at the 5:10 mark of an assist from Oreskovich to tie things up.  Then Rob Wagner put Williamson back on top, this time for good, when he scored an unassisted goal with just 33 seconds left in the quarter to give Williamson a 4-3 advantage.

Williamson increased their lead to 5-3 at the 13:05 mark of the fourth, on Cooper Conroy's second goal.  They then increased their lead to 6-3 at the 6:05 mark on Seamus Bohannan's second goal, off an assist from Justin Minch.  Rowan scored with 2:10 left to move to within 6-4, but Williamson's defense took over from there to give them their seventh straight win on the year.

Speaking of defense, Williamson defense of Chris Meiklejohn, Nick DelVecchio, Seamus Dougherty and Jacob Behrle did an outstanding job of limiting the Prof's chances, while goalie Jack Welsh came up big once again in net with seven saves on the night.

"It was a different week for us, and the guys are anxious for Spring Break, plus Rowan is an outstanding team, so all that made for a challenging scenario tonight.  But good teams win when things are not always going their way, and good teams win when adversity hits.  They find a way to win.  And our guys did that in gutting out tonight's win," shared Williamson head coach Jim DeRose.

Williamson will now get a well-earned break, as their next game isn't until Wednesday, April 3 at 7:00 P.M. at Del Tech.
