Big Second Half Keeps Lacrosse Hot
The game started slowly for Williamson, as they found themselves down 2-1 at the end of the first period. Things then took a wild turn in the second period, as after scoring just three goals in the first period, the two teams combined for eight in the second. Williamson started things off by scoring four straight goals in just over three minutes, before Del Tech answered right back with three of their own to tie things up at 5-5, before Cooper Conroy's goal off a nice feed from Matt Dickinson gave Williamson a 6-5 lead at half.
Whatever the Williamson coaching staff said to the team at halftime, they might want to save that for another game as well, because Williamson dominated things for the final two quarters. The Mechanic defense, led by another stellar performance by freshman goalie Jack Welsh, put the clamps on the Del Tech offense, shutting them out during the third quarter. Williamson's offense continued to roll, as they used two goals by Dickinson, and one each by Shane Titus and Matt Gallagher to eventually ice the game.
What a difference six weeks makes, as the two teams played earlier this season. Williamson escaped that one with a 7-5 win but this time around, it was pretty much a dominating performance by the home team.
"Our guys don't panic. Even though we started slow, and even after Del Tech came back and tied things up, our guys continue to play hard and stick with the plan," shared legondary Williamson head coach Jim DeRose.
The win moves Williamson to 9-4 on the year and sets up a huge NCLL Liberty division game this Friday night at undefeated The College of New Jersey. That game has all kinds of play-off ramifications as far as who plays whom and where the games will be played. We will post information as soon as we receive it.
Prior to the game, Williamson honored its six seniors, Matt Gallagher, Bryce Gordy, Josh McMahon, Anthony Minor, Shane Titus and Luke Van Auken, and their families, for their dedication to the Williamson lacrosse program.
